Don’t Let The Stink Bugs Stink Up Your Summer!

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

Are you a property manager or operation manager that just tested your air conditioning unit and realized it isn’t operating the way it should? If yes, stink bugs could be the problem lurking in your AC unit. Read now to learn how to keep your AC operating properly while keeping the stink bugs away.

About The Problems Stink Bugs Can Cause Your AC Unit

During the winter, stink bugs seek out warmth. They often find this warmth by climbing inside outdoor packaged AC units or AC condensing units. Stink bugs get warmth from the heat that radiates from your heat pumps. If an air conditioner is not running during the winter, no power is going to the contactor.  That means no electricity to the outdoor components or the heat that comes with it.  A heat pump runs all year round and will have a heat load in the outdoor components during the winter. Once the stick bugs get inside the unit, they warm up from the relays and go inside the contactor.

As warm weather seasons of Spring and Summer approach, the thermostat will tell your AC unit to turn on, the contactor turns on and closes to make a connection. If a stick bug happens to get stuck in the middle of the contractor, it will squish inside the contactor.

This will make complication with your AC because there will no longer be a solid connection within the contactor. Mechanical problems and higher amp draws will result because the system will try its hardest to start trying to pull more. This higher amp draw will inevitably cause damage to your HVAC unit internal components.

Stink bugs can hid in the coils in-between the aluminum fins. And this will limit the amount of airflow that can pass through the coil, raise energy costs and lowering the efficiency of the HVAC unit.

Other ways stink bugs can get into the AC unit is through the thermostats in buildings. The easiest ones to get through are digital thermostats because stink bugs are attracted to LCD screens.

Crockett Facilities Services Graduates From 8(a) Program:Awarded For Energy Saving Practices

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

Crockett Facilities Services Reduces Energy Consumption For the Government and Commercial Sectors.

In March, Crockett Facilities Services, Inc. (CFSI) was awarded the Mechanical Service Contractors of America (MSCA) GreenSTAR designation for clearly demonstrating environmental responsibility and a commitment to energy saving practices.

CFSI is a leading provider of building operations, building maintenance, mechanical contracting and HVAC services to government and commercial clients.

The MSCA GreenSTAR is given to less than one percent of HVACR contractors. MSCA is the United State’s leading trade association for air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration contractors. The organization has over 1,400 members across the U.S and Canada.

Living up to MSCA GreenSTAR standards, Crockett Facilities Services has the skills and expertise required to deliver energy efficient, cost-effective indoor environmental solutions to commercial building owners and property managers.

It is no secret that energy costs represent the largest single operating expense for buildings with more than 35% percent of all controllable operating costs. This is why Crockett Facilities Services implements green technologies and preventive maintenance for all its clients. When this is done, heating and cooling equipment runs more efficiently, operating costs are reduced and tenant comfort is maximized.

Crockett Facilities Services business success is based on the necessity for better facilities management services.

Mark Crockett, vice President of Crockett Facilities Services has stated in a discussion about ways for 8(a) companies to develop:

“ As long as the government is the biggest real estate owner out there, there is always going to be a requirement for facilities management services.”

Through a federal 8(a) contracting program Crockett Facilities Services has built up its business and credibility. Crockett Facilities has also invested money in marketing towards the commercial sector to prepare for life after the 8(a) contracting program.

Through the federal 8(a) program, Crockett Facilities has moved from earning 75 percent of its revenue through the 8(a) program to earning 55 percent.
