Backpack Drive
In August 2011, CFSI employees donated 250 new backpacks - all stuffed with school supplies. The backbacks were given to elementary students as part of Prince George's County (Maryland) First Annual Back to School Fair.
Project Linus
In February 2011, CFSI employees, friends and family participated in a memorial day of service to honor Samantha Rankin who passed away on May 31, 2010. Twenty one blankets – one for each year of Samantha’s short life – were made and donated to Project Linus. With hundreds of local chapters and thousands of volunteers across the United States, Project Linus volunteers work together to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."
“Heat’s On – Water’s Off” Project
Every year since 2008, our Steamfitters Local 602 employees, along with volunteers from the Mechanical Contractors Association of Metro Washington and Plumbers Local 5, participate in the annual "Heat's On – Water's Off" project in Prince George's County. The project provides preventive maintenance services to the elderly and disabled who may not be able to afford these services. We inspected, repaired and replaced heating and plumbing systems in 30 homes to get them ready for winter.
Rebuilding Together
Rebuilding Together is the nation's leading nonprofit organization, working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize neighborhoods by providing extensive rehabilitation and modification services to those in need at no cost to them. In 2009, as part of the Washington D.C. Rebuilding Together program, CFSI employees volunteered their time and expertise to renovate a family's row house in Washington D.C. Because of extensive water damage that left the house without heat, air conditioning, plumbing or electricity, it had to be completely gutted. For over a month, everyone worked hard to make the house comfortable and livable – installing new heating and air conditioning units, laying new carpets, restoring electrical and plumbing services and providing new furniture.
