How Does a UVC Emitter Work?

Ultraviolet (UV) light is a form of electromagnetic energy produced naturally by the sun. UVC refers to ultraviolet light with wavelengths between 200 – 280 nanometers (nm). UV light comes in between 100 and 200nm, UVB between 280 and 315nm, and between 315 and 400nm.

The entire UV spectrum has the ability to kill or inactivate microorganisms, but UVC light energy provides the most germicidal effect. UVC targets the DNA of microorganisms, destroying their cells and making replication impossible. By applying UVC at the primary sources of contamination – VAC evaporator coils and drain pans – you can drastically improve HVAC environmental hygiene and thus improve IAQ, as well as overall energy efficiency.

What is HVAC Biofilm and Health

Biofilm is an active, complex microbial matrix of mold and bacteria that adheres to HVAC evaporator coils, drain pans, and ducts, protecting the organisms from biocides. The biofilms themselves give off what are known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can cause headaches, allergic reactions, and asthma responses among your tenants.  So it is important for business owners and facility managers to reduce the presence VOCs.
