What’s Wrong With Your Commercial HVAC Unit?

Is the hallway outside cooler than individual rooms in ninety-degree heat? It’s a sign that you need to reset the entire system, or one of these other reasons could cause it.

It’s Not Well-Maintained

Preventative maintenance will keep your commercial HVAC unit running smoothly. After all, the whole concept of PM is predicated on finding any problems with your system and fixing those problems before they get out of hand. However, it’s easy to neglect your HVAC for one reason or another.  When a commercial HVAC unit isn’t well-maintained, it won’t work as efficiently, and it won’t last as long as you need it to.

The Filters Are Clogged

Keeping the filters in your commercial HVAC unit clean is important because clogged filters decrease the efficiency of the system. Depending on how often the system is running at full speed, you may need to change the filters more often; the typical rule of thumb is to replace them four times a year, but in some cases, changing the filters every month could be more appropriate and effective at correcting any issues that you come across.

You Need Refrigerant

Refrigerants are the liquids that help provide air conditioning to your building. The R22 refrigerant that has long been a standard component of most commercial HVAC units is on its way out in favor of more environmentally-friendly coolants. Look out for any possible leaks, because the leaks can contribute to why your building is too hot, which make indoor conditions even more miserable when it’s already hot outside.

The Thermostat is Broken

Sometimes, there’s nothing seriously wrong with the commercial HVAC unit itself. Instead, you could be deceived by the thermostat being broken. The thermostat regulates when the air should kick on and how long it needs to run. Warm air is pleasant in the brisk chill of early fall and the freezing temperatures of winter, but in late summer, you prefer to have cold air instead.

When something is wrong with the thermostat, temperatures inside your could be changing throughout the day – meaning everyone goes from sweating to freezing and are miserable to whole time. If that’s the case, then some commissioning may be needed.
