3 Questions to Ask About Your Building’s Indoor Air Quality

One thing you’re likely not thinking about this winter is how well your employees and guests can breathe. Here are some pressing questions you should ask about the indoor air quality of your facility.

Simply put, winter is here. The ice and snow outside can take their toll on your commercial building. If you have a rooftop HVAC system on your building, you might already need to replace it. But one thing you’re likely not thinking about this winter is how well your employees and guests can breathe. Here are some pressing questions you should ask about the indoor air quality of your facility.

Does Everyone Get Sick?

During the fall and winter, it’s much more common for your employees to catch a cold or to have the flu. It’s just as likely that your visitors are sick, but you might not know it. However, if everyone seems to feel ill or uncomfortable at the same time, then it could indicate that you have poor indoor air quality and it needs to be improved. While it helps to encourage good hygiene, there are other measures you can take.

Consider cleaning out the ducts in your commercial HVAC system, or arrange for preventative maintenance that can prevent clogs and other blockages. Sometimes though, you may need to think about cutting-edge technology and upgrades that can help protect your building’s inhabitants from getting sick. This means that it’s worth it to install an air purifier that uses ultraviolet light. The radiation emitted by these purifiers doesn’t only prevent contaminants from being recycled through your air, it will destroy the germs instead.

Are There Complaints About Heat?

No one can concentrate on working if they feel too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter. Since winter brings freezing temperatures with it, it is tempting to turn up the heat in the interest of keeping everyone comfortably warm. However, employee complaints about heat can be just as common as complaints about being too cold. If it’s too dry, then it can affect your indoor air quality as well. That’s why it’s worth to add a humidifier and a dehumidifier to supplement your building’s commercial HVAC system.

Is It Excessively Dusty?

One last question to ask is if your building is excessively dusty. Too much dust in the air can trigger allergic reactions. If there’s too much dust, then that can decrease indoor air quality as well. It’s time for a round of cleaning before these problems can get any worse.
