The Importance of a Good Thermostat for Your Commercial HVAC System

The Importance of a Good Thermostat for Your Commercial HVAC System

Whether you’re afraid of what the next wave of snow and ice will do to your business inside the building or your employees have been complaining about the temperatures inside the office, here is why choosing a good thermostat for your commercial HVAC system is so important.

Even though winter will soon give way to spring, it will still be chilly. Whether you’re afraid of what the next wave of snow and ice will do to your business inside the building or your employees have been complaining about the temperatures inside the office, here is why choosing a good thermostat for your commercial HVAC system is so important.

The Thermostat

When it comes to commercial HVAC systems, the thermostat is bound to be the one component that just about everyone in your office is familiar with. After all, it can’t look that much different than a thermostat on a residential HVAC system. All thermostats should be simple to use and understand, but we know that not all thermostats are created equal. A low-quality thermostat in your commercial HVAC system might cause you more problems than you’d realize. For example, it could be causing your energy bills to go up while also making your office space more uncomfortable than you may initially notice.

Ease of Use

It’s also important that the thermostat needs to be easy to use. When it comes to a thermostat in a residential setting, it’s possible that only a handful of people will change the settings on it. In an office, however, there are many more people who will change the settings as they wish. The constant shifting in temperature will make everyone else uncomfortable and will sap the efficiency of the system because it won’t be able to stay at one consistent temperature throughout the workday.

Understanding Readings

You’ll also need to be able to read what the thermostat on your commercial HVAC system is telling you. That’s why the thermostat you choose needs to have a screen with a digital display on it. Not only will be you able to see the indoor temperature at a glance, but there will also be other settings that you can access with minimal frustration.

Programmable Thermostats

You might be better off with a programmable thermostat. This means you can start the system or switch it off as needed. You can also change the temperature as the sun coming through the clouds makes it warmer inside, or as it gets cooler as sundown approaches. It also means that you won’t waste energy during off-hours at night or on weekends when no one is in the building.
