Have You Considered VRF Technology for Your Commercial Building?

Have You Considered VRF Technology for Your Commercial Building?

Variable refrigerant flow, or VRF technology, could be the solution you’re looking for.

If you’re worried about how much energy your commercial building consumes, then it’s time for a change. Variable refrigerant flow, or VRF technology, could be the solution you’re looking for. But how do you make sure it’s the right fit for your business? Let’s find out.

How It Works

VRF technology has been around much longer than you think. It first caught on with businesses in Europe and Asia before making its way to North America. Only in the past decade has it become a viable solution for energy waste problems affecting companies of all sizes.

VRF systems distribute refrigerant through pipes from an external condenser to fan coils throughout your commercial building. If you need one part of the building to be warmer or cooler than others, then you can set that via the thermostat. Instead of always running at full capacity, the compressor motor will run at different speeds throughout the day. It can do this because of a component called an inverter-driven motor. This motor allows the system to run more slowly and save more energy.

More Benefits

Using VRF technology allows your employees to set the temperatures in their individual offices; after all, the weather outside doesn’t always reflect how comfortable your workers are; they might like a cold office when it’s freezing, or a hot office when it’s scorching outside. The climate inside your building affects the mood and productivity of your workers, and can also affect how your visitors feel. Clients and customers will be much more inclined to agree to any deals or transactions when they feel more comfortable in your building, so don’t overlook temperature and air quality.

With energy and climate concerns addressed, you can focus on your business. While preventative maintenance for your entire HVAC system will still be necessary, it won’t be as frequent of a headache.

Older Structures

The age of your building can make it a challenge to maintain. Many older buildings are without any HVAC systems at all. In some cases, the HVAC unit could be old and outdated. This means that some upgrades are in order, and VRF technology is just such an upgrade. Adding a VRF HVAC unit to your building, no matter how old it is, means that you won’t have to deal with the ductwork that many buildings need, yet can be difficult to route correctly.
