HVAC Systems and Duct Cleaning: What to Get Rid of First

HVAC Systems and Duct Cleaning: What to Get Rid of First

In these uncertain times, focusing on cleaning and disinfecting every part of your building becomes even more important. Something that might get overlooked is duct cleaning.

In these uncertain times, focusing on cleaning and disinfecting every part of your building becomes even more important. Something that might get overlooked is keeping the ductwork clean. Your HVAC system efficiency could drop if you don’t focus on these disgusting problems that could affect your employees, customers, and clients

Viruses

Viruses can build up in your HVAC system and be transmitted through your ductwork. This situation becomes even more likely if you rely on cooling towers or chillers that are not properly maintained. Viruses and bacteria can contribute to a condition known as sick building syndrome. Don’t let that happen to you!

Mold

Another problem to deal with is the growth of mold and mildew. Both of these pests flourish in dark places where they can have steady access to air and water to help them thrive. If they build up in your HVAC system, the filters you rely on might lose their effectiveness. One consequence of this is that your system is less efficient and thus has to expend more energy in order to meet your heating and cooling needs

Chemicals

Chemicals of all kinds can also foul up your HVAC system even if you don’t work in a building that handles toxic chemicals or hazardous waste. Something to watch out for includes the substances that are known to cause breathing problems such as allergens, ozone, and formaldehyde. The latter two fall into a category known as volatile organic compounds or VOCs. Copiers, printers, permanent markers, and adhesives can all emit these compounds, as can rugs and carpets, paint, pesticides, and even cigarette or vape smoke.

Pollution

Pollution manifests in many forms, such as smog or dust and dirt. The pollution that lingers inside your building and affects the operations of all of the components belonging to your HVAC system can be attributed to poor ventilation measures that need to be rectified as soon as possible. One such problem has to do with excess humidity. That is why a dehumidifier can come in useful and should be deployed.
