Preventative Maintenance and Reducing Energy Consumption

Preventative Maintenance and Reducing Energy Consumption

Your HVAC systems will need to rise to the occasion and meet the demands that you have of them. That’s why preventative maintenance is so important, and why reducing your building’s energy consumption is a large part of that solution.

Even in spring, temperatures can be high. The closer to summer we get, the hotter the weather will become. Your HVAC systems will need to rise to the occasion and meet the demands that you have of them. That’s why preventative maintenance is so important, and why reducing your building’s energy consumption is a large part of that solution

Attend to Airflow Obstructions

First of all, you will want to be sure nothing is interfering with the airflow inside your building. This can automatically make your system work harder instead of working smarter. These obstacles aren’t always within the system itself – it could be that vents are blocked by furniture or items such as backpacks and bags. This isn’t always on purpose, either. Sometimes it is entirely by accident! Either way, the HVAC unit has to push harder so that it can reach the temperature set on the thermostat. It uses more electricity, runs up your bills, and can wear down the system faster

Change the Filters Out

Second of all, take the time to have the filters swapped out in the name of preventative maintenance. You can do this yourself because it is easy enough, but it’s better if you get the professionals to do it. Old filters don’t work as well, especially since they can become clogged with bacteria, dirt, dust, and other contaminants. Older filters also cause your system to work harder than it needs to do.

Get the Coils Cleaned

Something else that you might not think about when it comes to preventative maintenance is how clean the interior components of your HVAC system are. That’s why you need to get the coils cleaned out as well. By doing this, you ensure that heat gets transferred correctly because you don’t want your employees to get too cold or too hot as April approaches and May and June aren’t that far behind.

Have Ductwork Inspected for Leakage

Finally, make sure that all of your ductwork is inspected. Preventative measures can stop leaks before they get worse. The secret is to get an inspection performed in a timely fashion.
