Pressing Questions to Ask About Your IAQ

Pressing Questions to Ask About Your IAQ

Around this time of year, building temperatures can swing wildly out of control, and with cold and flu season in full swing, it is worth it to ask a few crucial questions about your building’s indoor air quality, or IAQ.

The building envelope is a concept that many business owners might not recognize. However, many facility managers are only too aware of what that phrase means. Around this time of year, building temperatures can swing wildly out of control, and with cold and flu season in full swing, it is worth it to ask a few crucial questions about your building’s indoor air quality, or IAQ.

Is Everyone Ill?

Everybody gets sick at some point throughout the year. However, it is much more likely that your employees will come down with bronchitis and pneumonia when it is bitterly cold outside. One of your main responsibilities is to ensure that your employees are comfortable and able to maximize their potential. Higher morale means happier employees, and anyone who is sick will be unhappy. Don’t make them feel even more miserable because they are afraid to miss time from work. Terrible IAQ can make the workday go by more slowly for everyone, even if they are healthy. Cleaning out the air ducts and scheduling preventative maintenance is the best way to kick off the new year in style!

Are There Heat Problems?

Unstable temperatures inside and outside the building can also affect air quality. If there are heating problems, it can distract your employees. Besides, if they are too hot or too cold, then they can’t focus on the task at hand. While it could be as simple as your workers wearing too many layers while sitting at their desks, sometimes offering personal space heaters or desk fans isn’t going far enough. You will need to have the thermostat attached to your commercial HVAC system inspected before the reported problems can get any worse.

Is There Too Much Dust?

Dust is one of the most common allergens found anywhere. It doesn’t matter if it is in a home, a shop, an office park, or a hospital. Dust can make everyone cough and sneeze and as such, it can be a health risk. After all, the transmission of germs is no laughing matter. Allergies can also cause your employees to call out sick more often, which will hurt the bottom line and reflect poorly on your workplace and the unique family contained therein.
