Step Up Your Energy Conservation Efforts by Following These Tips!

Insulation helps improve energy conservation! What else do you need to know?

Saving energy by any means is an admirable goal. However, like with many other things in life, that’s easier said than done. You shouldn’t be discouraged. It might even serve as a motivator – what are some clever ways to save money and be more eco-friendly that aren’t always the “typical” methods? We’ve got some tips that could point you in the right direction!

Remember That Energy Waste is Quite Real

Back in 2015, the Environmental Protection Agency discovered that at least 30% of the energy being used in your facility is wasted. That figure probably hasn’t changed much (if at all) in the six years since. Bad habits can contribute to this dilemma or make it even worse without changing the behaviors at hand. And the HVAC system is bound to consume a majority of the energy that your building needs. Cutting back on energy usage is a great way to help the environment and avoid making your team uncomfortable.

Rethink How You Control the Thermostat

Another technique for saving energy is by monitoring the thermostat. So-called “thermostat wars” can disrupt the daily operations of your business. That’s because while one employee may be comfortable, there’s a good chance that their colleagues will not be. Plus, distributing heated or cooled air around the building when it’s unoccupied is a silly waste of energy. Programmable thermostats and building automation systems allow you to take advantage of related smart technologies. Thus, you can adjust heating levels, air conditioning, and even the lights when you’re not on-site as necessary.

Upgrade to More Efficient HVAC Equipment

Upgrades and retrofits make plenty of financial sense. Worried about a dip in HVAC unit performance over the last fiscal quarter (or even the past few years?) That might be a sign you need to remove your aging equipment and take the initiative to replace them. Pay attention to SEER ratings and get the LEED certification process underway. You’ll be grateful that you did when your return on investment skyrockets.

Increase Insulation, Decrease Waste

Insulation helps improve energy conservation. Cracked walls and faulty windows are the most common culprits behind air leakage. Don’t overlook the condition of your pipes, HVAC ducts, and electrical outlets as well. Why do they matter? They impact IAQ and airflow in general. Outdoor and rooftop units require debris removal. Likewise, interior air grills and ductwork cannot be blocked by poorly-placed furniture.
